Annual Meeting, February 12, 2011

Had a good turnout of about 50 Chi & Maine Members & their families. Guest speakers were Dr. Dan Grooms DVM regarding calving difficulties, vaccination programs for young calves and cows. Michigan Cattlemens Assoc Monte Bordner spoke about the upcoming Michigan Cattlemen receive back from the association from duesa paid. MSU Ken Geuns spoke on the Summer Beef Showcase. Lorren Van Order told about the ipcoming Beef Expo. Kristina Van Order gave report on the Michigan Jr. Livestock Society. Kalmbah Feed Nutritionist for beef and dairy feeders also was a guest at the annual meeting.
The Maine Anjou assoc. had a brief meeting prior to Social Hour for election of new board members for the term of 2011-2014. Maine Board members in attendance were Amanda Veen, Bill Martyn, Lorren Van Order, Kristina Van Order, and Phil Hutchison, Kristina made a motion to re-elect the out going Board members for another term, Ken Geuns 2nd the motion. Motion Carried. Bill Martyn, Duane Simpkins and Amanda Veen will be our newly elected board members.
Date set of Sunday March 13th for the next Maine Anjou Board meeting to be held at 4pm at MSU Beef Barn, 3207 Bennett Rd., East Lansing. The beef barn is located on the corner of Bennett & Beaumont Roads. Everyone is invited and welcome to attend. We want your input and concerns. It is our desire to get everyone involved and have regularly scheduled meetings throughout the upcoming year.
Kristina reported on the MJLS annual Meeting, president Matt Miller, Vice president Kyle Schrader, Secretary Amanda Veen, Treasurer Kristina Van Order 3rd Ext. Cory Weber. A new website will be set up and hopefully running by April 2011. In the year 2010 828 head of cattle were shown at the Winter Beef Classic, of that number, 25 were Maine Heifers and 27 Maine Steers. This has always had an outstanding showing of Juniors and their cattle. Please encourage them to join the MI Jr. association. Five $500.00 Scholarships were awarded in 2010. The 2011 Winter Beef Classic show will separate the Maine cattle classes from the Maintainer Classes.
Family and business sponsors are needed to sponcor classes at the upcoming shows @ $25.00 per class. If you would be able to help out by sponsoring a class please contact Kristina Van Order 269-751-5527. Shows included are the Summer Showcase & Chi Field Day Maine Classes.
Lorren gave report on the 2010 Club Calf Sale, 7 heifers averaged $803.57 and 32 steers averaged $88.00. Reported on the 2010 Beef Expo, 4 Bulls averaged $1587.50 and 14 females averaged $1386.00. 2011 Maine Anjou entries to date are 6 Bulls, 8 Open females , 1 Bred Female and 1 embryo lot. All breeds seem to be down in # for 2011 thus far. date for Beef Expo, April 1-3, 2011.
July 10,2011 is the scheduled date for the Chi & Maine Jr. Field Day, to be held at the Allegan Fair Grounds. This is another great opportunity to get experience showing your heifer or steer.
Our Junior auction sale was held at the end of the evening, this was again a great success and thank you to all the contributors and buyers in this event. This event always raises much appreciated money and lots of laughs for our participants.
Use your board members, give them feedback to take to their meetings.
